Just a postscript to the FiveThousandaire fundraiser held to support the Galway Hurling Teams which was held on the 21st May.
Terrific support throughout the county including Moycullen means that €50K/€51K was raised for the Galway Hurling teams. The night itself was really enjoyable with a bit of a fairytale ending.
After the evening's interval, Galway Senior captain, David Collins competed in a special round with his winnings to go towards the charity Jigsaw, which supports the mental health of young people in Galway. Having won €500, his lifelines exhausted, David chose not to risk his winnings but, as it turned out, would have had the right answer to win the €1000. The Galway Hurling Committee, understanding the importance of charity, magnanimously, allowed him to have the €1000 anyway. Then, in the last round of the night, sitting on a total of €1000, the final player declared she was going to donate her winnings to Jigsaw and was going to "go for " the €2000 question. She got it and the night yielded a total of €3000 for Jigsaw as well as its main purpose of helping the training fund for the Galway Hurling teams.
