U16's lose nailbiter to Athenry

Mágh Cuilinn completed their U16 group programme against Athenry with an agonising finish in Baile Doite. The home team had led by 7 points at halftime but Athenry stormed back with 3-3 in the second half to go into the final two minutes two points ahead. Mágh Cuilinn had two opportunities to drop frees in to force a goal and claim an automatic quarter final place but there was no way through a massed Athenry defence. The result doesn't affect Mágh Cuilinn's qualification for the preliminary quarter finals but they will go through as lower seeds as Michael Cusack's nine point win over Ballinasloe leap frogged them into second place on the basis of the head-to-head result against Mágh Cuilinn. In the fixture not previously known Athenry had beaten Cusack's by three points. The final table is below:
