U13 So So Near as Knockout Season Begins

Our U13s suffered the cruelty of a two point lead when conceding a final minute goal to Ardrahan in the A1 Cup Semi Final on Saturday after a heroic display. Well done to a great bunch of lads who finish the season with the highest county ranking of any team in the club for 2014 and they can now only be outdone by U15, who throw in in a fortnight! Mágh Cuilinn led at half time an even though hit by an immediate goal on the restart, an equal response was found within a couple of minutes. Mágh Cuilinn that one point lead to two points twice before succumbing to that late blow. Well done to a great bunch of lads who finish the season with the highest county ranking of any team in the club for 2014
On Wednesday, our Intermediate team engaged in some shadow boxing in an away League game in Cappataggle ahead of the real deal next month in Championship. Early goals kept Mágh Cuilinn on the back foot throughout Cappataggle opened things up in attack. Then were well set for a comfortable win against a selection with many absentees. Let's hope it's a different story on 20th September in Clarinbridge when the sides meet again in a winner take all Championship encounter.
Junior and Minor teams have secured home draws in their Shield quarter final ties on Sunday next for the former and on the following Saturday for the Minors. The Junior team throw in at 11am against Beagh. Both teams served up a fiesty encounter in Renmore last year with Mágh Cuilinn staging an unlikely revival to win by one. The Minor team have a chance to salvage some pride after two less than indifferent displays saw them limp out the Championship. They also had a one point win over their opponents, Rahoon/Newcastle at the same venue last year. Both selections will be vastly different from last year's but the same results would be more than welcome. The Minor game throws in at 4pm.
The only team in the club that can overhaul our U13 heroes in terms of overall county ranking are our U15 team who compete at the same A1 level. Its starts on September 11th against an improving Salthill Knocknacarra and is followed by a long away Thursday evening trip to Mountbellew/Moylough before the final September encounter at home to Liam Mellowes on the last Saturday of the month.
