The Senior relegation process which for the ultimate loser will involve a minimum of four games and at least three games for the others involved begins this weekend. The six teams who lost out over Rounds 1 & 2 are now divided into two groups of three. The first group features Athenry, Liam Mellowes and Mágh Cuilinn. The second group features Sarsfields, Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry and Carnmore.
On Saturday, in the first leg of the round robin, Athenry take on Liam Mellowes in Loughrea at 6.30pm. Mágh Cuilinn face the winner of this clash on June 22nd/23rd (although there is a suggestion this may be fixed for Jun 8th/9th). The final game in the group between Mágh Cuilinn and this weekend's losers is scheduled for Jul 13th/14th.
Any team winning two games automatically wins the group but if teams tie (A win and a draw or each team winning once) places will be decided by scoring difference. The group winner qualifies for the Shield preliminary quarter finals while the other two playing in the relegation semi-finals. The second team in the round robin plays plays the third placed team in the other group and vice versa. The semi-final losers play each other in the relegation final with the loser relegated to Intermediate. Both the Shield competition and the relation semi-final are scheduled for the end of September.
The first game in the other relegation group has also been fixed for Saturday at 7pm in Ballinaslow, where Sarsfields take on Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry
