At a recent meeting of the Medical, Scientific and Welfare Committee, the issue of ‘biting’ and the provision in Rule for dealing with same was referred to Coiste Bainistí.
Coiste Bainistí requested advice from the Rules Advisory Committee.
The Rules Advisory Committee was reluctant to specify ‘biting’ in Rule as a specific Infraction. The Committee recommended to Coiste Bainistí that Ard Chomhairle be requested to issue a Directive dealing with issue.
Ard Chomhairle, at its meeting on 17 Lúnasa 2013, issued the following Directive in accordance with Rule 3.44 (b) T.O. 2013 and on the basis of the advice of the Rules Advisory Committee:
That ‘biting’ shall constitute a Category III Infraction. Where a Referee’s Report discloses an alleged ‘biting’ incident, or a Competitions Control Committee decides that Disciplinary Action is appropriate in relation to an alleged ‘biting’ incident, the Competitions Control Committee shall propose a penalty, no less than the minimum, applicable to 7.2 (b) Category III (vii) Inflicting injury recklessly by means other than those stated above.
