The Junior team in the most keenly contested group game so far held on for a well deserved victory over previously unbeaten Athenry. Mágh Cuilinn laid the groundwork for victory with an outstanding first half return of 14 points conceding only 3 in reply.
However, Athenry did stage a determined comeback and when they finally got in for goal with 12 minutes remaining the score stood at 16 points to one goal and nine. After a period of stout defence, Frank Enright slotted the 65 which had resulted from his original free. Although Athenry did achieve one more point, which could have been a goal if the shot had stayed down, CIMC were able to see out the remainder of the game in relative comfort. The result secures Mágh Cuilinn's place in the quarter finals with two games to play( against Annaghdown and Ballinasloe). Both these games should be closer to the Athenry contest than previous fixtures based on the results so far.
CIMC, unbeaten so far will travel to Balinasloe also unbeaten while having secured home advantage against Annaghdown because of the re-fixture, Mágh Cuilinn will be anxious to exorcise memories of last year's heavy defeat. The current table based the results known thus far is as follows:
